What we do
We create a collective voice for young carers who want to raise awareness and improve services for all young carers across the UK.
"I like coming to YCNV as I get to see other people who are young carers across the country and it shows us that we're not the only ones."
- Young carer aged 13, Sheffield
How YCNV works:
Our purpose is to bring young carers from services across the country to campaign collectively on issues that are important to them.
Young people (alongside their worker) meet up to six times a year. The same young person does not have to represent their young carer service at every meeting.
We provide vouchers to thank young people for participating in the meetings (funding permitting).
Our meetings are usually online, but if possible, we try to meet in person once a year.
At these meetings, we play games to get to know one another, discuss key issues that are affecting young carers and work towards our campaign for the year.
In previous years we have created resources for schools, mental health practitioners and even written letters to MPs!
The network is open to young carers services across the UK who have an active participation group/forum or have young carers in their organisation who are interested in being involved in campaign work.
Workers from young carer services across the country meet up to eight times a year to plan the young people’s sessions based on what young people tell us they want. We also share best practice for participation work with young carers.
For more information about how YCNV works, please read our Terms of Reference.
If your young carer service is interested in joining YCNV please contact Raphy on raphy.poon@sycp.org.uk.
