2020-21 Education

In the first year of the network (2020-21), the group wanted their collective campaign to focus on identifying and supporting young carers in education settings. They produced some Top Tips and an Identification Guide which were sent to over 2000 schools and colleges across England. The Top Tips were also included in a national Children's Society schools Covid resource.

  • The group also launched a petition calling on Government to make it a requirement for schools to have Designated Young Carer Lead.

  • In addition to their education and mental health campaigns, the group have:

    • Given their input into the YCNV Terms of Reference

    • Taken part in training around campaigning and rights

    • Looked at Black Lives Matter in the context of young carers

    • Worked together with a designer to develop a logo for the network

    • Co-produced the Young Carers' Rights: Making Them Real document as part of a campaign to get young carers included in the Health and Care Bill currently going through Parliament

    • Met with members of the House of Lords and the Children’s s Commissioner for England (Autumn 21/Spring 22)

    • Given a presentation at the launch of the national Young Carers Alliance (March 2022)
